I ought read this novel in English edition for in Italy it is not been translated. I found it mesmerizing as it said in the official presentation. The novel is musically wrote, with ebb and flow of themes, like in a ballad. But, yes the romance isn’t there, like other readers wrote. I daresay that at the end of her carrier Balogh needed to explore love in the reality of that it was in the historical period. She seems postulate that feelings accomplish the standardized behaviors, so you find here heroes not admitting to be in love, nor they admit this in themselves souls, before marrying. But the very same character does show to be in love, in her journal, just only one day after the wedding night. After few hours of sex, He and She act each other the mutual love with affectation, as like their families aspect they will do. Balogh gives an account of the stiffness of the period and how love could flow under the surface. This very same need of reality in Balogh we found in “At last comes love” (2010) where Balogh seems to speak to their readers: why do women dream love and family ever? Because of dreaming freedom is a vane effort? Or for the strangeness of reproduction instinct?

But yes, this novel is not contenting.
